GOGONA (MEKHELA CHADOR)
STORY:
Excited about wearing her mother’s muga mekhela chador and gamkharu, every year she eagerly waited for rongali bihu to arrive. Bihu was an occasion, she could wear her favorite muga mekhela chador from her mother’s closet and put on her mother's makeup which she was otherwise not allowed to. Years later when she stays miles away from her home, the beats of dhol, pepa and gogona take back to those happy and carefree childhood days when there were no deadlines nor responsibilities to fulfill, only that mattered was to dance on the beats of her favorite bihu songs.
This purple mekhela chador is as gorgeous as it can get.

DESCRIPTION:
Mekhela Chador is a traditional attire worn by women in Assam. The bottom portion draped from the waist downwards, is called the mekhela. The top portion is the chador which is a long piece of cloth which has one end tucked into the upper portion of the mekhela above the belly button and the rest is draped around the chest similarly like a saree. One of the most hassle free garment, mekhela chador looks as elegant and stylish as a saree once it is draped.
