STORY:

The biodiversity in Kaziranga and the ethnic people around it share a strange, deep-rooted connection which is both elegant and profound like that between the good and the evil and how to restore and maintain the balance with nature. In the local songs and performances, it is as if they try to establish a connection with the flora and fauna, and it is the belief that the convergence of time, place, direction and quality of being would bring forth that balance. Kaziranga can only sustain as a perfect image of a beautiful outside world with the beginning of life and the result of hard work and internally is the embodiment of sacrifice of all the connected beings.
Deer dance akin to the dances of South America represents the ethereal connection of the people to Kaziranga, one which has kept itself alive in stories, songs and weaves.

DESCRIPTION:

Handloom silk cotton rich fabric is woven using hand operated looms. The warp (length) and weft (width) are two sets of interlacing yarns woven by weavers on a mechanised loom that do not use electricity. Loom fabric as a result becomes soft, durable and provides more comfort in comparison to machine-made fabric. Loom fabric that is woven with love by someone, definitely gives you a unique feel. Most importantly, human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and gives the fabrics greater value.

A labour intensive skill, the art of handweaving takes 20-25 days for a saree to be handwoven. Supporting handloom fabric supports our ancient heritage of rich weaving and encourages the weavers to continue practicing this precious art-form.

Motifs:

The kaziranga motif, according to the local craftsmen and experts derives its inspiration from the wildlife of Kaziranga. It represents the one horned rhino along with deer and other floras.
